#WhyArmenia: Raymond Damadian

He was the first to perform a full body scan to diagnose cancer. Meet Raymond Damadian who invented the world's first MRI device.

Raymond Damadian is an Armenian-American physician and research scientist. He discovered the basis for using magnetic resonance imaging as a tool for medical diagnosis. Merging medicine and technology Damadian developed the world’ first MRI device - a medical imaging technique used in radiology to form pictures of the anatomy and the physiological processes of the body.

Dr. Damadian offered a new way to diagnose cancer and conduct follow-ups without exposing the patient’s body to ionising radiation. Detecting and treating cancer as well as other diseases is easier and safer thanks to Damadian’s Gifted Mind.
