Armenia ranks 9th in Chess among 170+ countries. On an international level, Armenia ranks 9th in chess according to FIDE, an international organization that connects the various national chess federations around the world.

Chess is a national sport in Armenia. Since 2011, chess classes became part of the curriculum in every public school, making Armenia the first country in the world to make chess mandatory in schools.
